Description

This property is offered for sale on behalf of the Woodland Trust as part of their Woodland Carbon Fund (WCF). The WCF is the largest forest carbon offset scheme in the UK, funding the creation and management of woodlands which contribute to climate change mitigation by locking away carbon in growing trees. ## Location Grist Wood is located in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), near the village of Peasmarsh in East Sussex. The woodland is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is close to the historic town of Rye and the renowned Great Dixter House and Gardens, which were the home and garden of the late Christopher Lloyd. ## Forestry Commission Information Unlike many of the Woodland Trust's sites, this woodland is not owned by the Woodland Trust, it is managed under a Fencing Enterprise Agreement (FEA). This means that the Woodland Trust are responsible for the creation and maintenance of the woodland, but the owner has the right to manage the woodland for a variety of purposes including timber production, under the terms of the agreement. ## Local Wildlife The diverse range of trees and the varied habitat within Grist Wood provide a home for a wide variety of wildlife. Deer, badgers, foxes and wild boar can all be found in the area, along with a host of different birds and butterflies. The recent coppicing has encouraged a variety of wildflowers to flourish, including foxgloves and ragged robins. ## Access, Rights of Way & Fencing There is excellent vehicle access to Grist Wood all year round via hard tracks. Parking is also possible within the woodland itself. The woodland is crossed by public footpaths, and there are numerous clearings and a camping area with a fire pit and storage shelters, making it ideal for woodland activities. ## Forestry Grants and Management Information The woodland is within a Forestry Commission planting approval area and an Environmental Stewardship Scheme. There may be opportunities for woodland grants and subsidies through these schemes. Please check with the Forestry Commission for the most current information. ## Prospective Buyers Prospective buyers are encouraged to visit the woodland to see its potential and to discuss any specific requirements or queries they may have
